In North America, seven out of ten people do not have a will, and the situation is similar elsewhere in the world. Why do so few people take the step of writing a will? Partly human nature is a reluctance to broach the subject, but mostly it is because of the way our culture deals with death.
By making a will, a right available to all individuals, you can make a statement that you care about the future and don't want to leave behind confusion.
There are many benefits to having a proper will. A will gives individuals the right to decide where things should go, and ensures their wishes are respected.
Over the next few decades an unprecedented transfer of wealth, conservatively estimated to be in the trillions of dollars, will take place between one generation and the next.
If only a small fraction of the people of the world makes a Will, and after remembering loved ones and friends, includes an environmental bequest of even a modest amount - millions of dollars can be directed towards organizations who devote all their time and energy towards protecting our planet.
Everyone can take this opportunity to exercise your rights with a will and leave a lasting legacy to future generations on a healthy planet.
